What is a clinical psychologist?

judith-lockeI am an experienced clinical psychologist. A Clinical Psychologist has completed at least 6 years of study in psychology. The sequence is usually a Bachelor degree in Arts or Science, an Honours year and a Master of Clinical Psychology. Clinical Psychologists are qualified to diagnose, treat and prevent a wide range of psychological and health problems experienced by adults, children and families. They can also undertake intellectual functioning tests for adults and children.

Typically Clinical Psychologists use Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) – an evidence-based therapy that uses only proven and established techniques that have strong evidence of success. CBT tends to be a proactive type of therapy, focusing on improving your future rather than just dwelling on your past.

CBT focuses on improving your future, not just dwelling on your past.
